This is actually an important point. Before the Internet I was trying to find out the maximum temperatures for some succulents from southwestern Africa. People from England who had been there during the warm season told me it was unimaginably hot, and the succulents grow in full sun on rocks. I tried some of them in dappled shade and they melted when it was just warm here. Later I found some climate information at the library and found that "unimaginably hot" meant an all-time maximum record high of about 90 F / 32C, which we might experience any time between the end of January and mid November.

So, when reading about what plants experience in habitat, a verbal description of temperatures is not very valuable. Get the numbers. This is so much easier now than it was just 20 years ago.

Impressions can be very confusing. We regularly hit 40-42 here in high summer. Seville has the reputation for being quite a heat trap, and when we were there once in the summer it was 45-46, which really got to me.
