Actually, I probably should have picked 'both' instead of 'stake'; I generally stake my phals but often don't stake the den/phals. I have a stake ready for my Bllra Marfitch 'Howard's Dream', which is getting ready to rebloom for me:-), but so far it doesn't seem to need it.
