Default Phrag China Dragon Windy Hill III Bud development

Note:Just to Add the linage in case I forget at some point. The division was purchased directly from Marilyn.

The cross of Windyhill III was made of "besseae #5 (a collected plant) and Grande 'Macrochilum', probably 2N"

Which means Windy Hill III is most likely 2N, can be crossed further.

The bud is big & nice, but looks empty against light, is it possible a blank?

Knock on wood, hope not

Oh no, they start that way. I have 3 phrags, and they all look "empty" when starting. Cattleya sheaths also look empty when they start. On both of these, a little growth will start way at the bottom of the sheath, and it will take some time (maybe a month, maybe even more than a month) before the flower bud is big enough. Some of the ones that are "sequential" will have a top "forming" bud, and lower empty-looking ones.

Bud poking through! A guy on slipper forum just blasted his China Dragon bud, but mine is looking strong, knock on wood.

It's my prized clone Windyhill II, sitting on west facing window, lightly shaded by spider plant, with it's own Humidity monitor & personal humidifier

Two buds so far, one is mature, look like it may open any time.

Unfortunately, I may miss the China dragon's 1st opening due to travel, out for a week.

It's also interesting to watch the trees in the background leafing out from the first photo to now.
