I post this stuff for two reasons. I figure that if I have a problem with something, I'm unlikely to be the only one, and secondly, and much more importantly, I always appreciate it when someone then shows me a better way of doing it.

Now the problem here is that of leaves hanging down from a hanging pot, or sticking out so that they get caught up, and damaged. Also, as with this Stan, it's freshly potted and the weight of the leaves was pulling it over..

Here's the tools you need. There's a heave grade cutter for the 4mm wire, a fine cutter for the thin wire and a pair of pliers to pull and twist the thin wire.

I like 4mm wire a lot. It's way cheaper than buying rod, and if you tap it with a hammer as you hold it on a flat hard surface, it will straighten out nicely.

I know that the pt radius was 17 cm, so the diameter was about 35 cm. The circumference will therefor be about 3 times that (actually pi = 3.142.) 3 x 35 is 105 so I cut about 120 cm off the roll, and bend it round an old bucket to get a half decent circle.

The next point is to count up the links to the point that the circle will support the leaves best, and thread the wire thru that link. Then work it round till you end up with the two ends passing thru the same link. I mark it to give a 10 cm overlap, and cut off the surplus.

Then I cut two bits of fine wire and wrap it half a dozen times round one end, before twisting it. I then twist tight with the pliers, cut it off neatly with the small snips before clamping the end down against the wrapped wire.

Repeat the wrap and twist on the other side, and the job is finished.

If one circle isn't enough, you can add another as I have with the Den Nobile.

Best of all, if you decide the circle is in the wrong place, just snip off the fine wire and move the circle to wherever you please.

I thread dental floss or fishing line through the chain links, and tie it to itself.

Dental floss is also great for hanging light things such as small mounts or Tillandsias.

Yeah, that would work, but it won't push the links out at all, and that is useful for some. Also, I would expect that to give you a triangle rather than a cirlcle. As for hanging, braided fishing line is the best stuff there is. It takes a HUGE load, while remaining very thin. For example, when the button stud came off the front of my jeans, I was able to sew on a button using braided line and a quite thin needle.

I like your how to threads and looking at your Spanish moss as it looks much nicer than mine does.
