When I first moved here I toasted (practically torched, really) quite a few that had previously lived outdoors so I'm pretty cautious about putting things outside. I do have a few spots that get no direct sun at all, but only a very few. I put a Blc., a Laelia, and a couple of Catts outside on a table that gets only a couple of hours of low angle direct light over the winter and those started getting burned spots, so I brought them in. I've also managed to burn a new Den through the windows over the winter. Everyone is putting out new leads/canes/leaves now and I think I'm going to play it safe and see if they bloom inside or not. But at least I've got everyone situated so that they're growing and not burning!

Ciao Nicola

Ha! Yes. There could be. I will have to save that spot for something I just can't live without.

Pasadena does get a good bit hotter than the coastal area. But another factor is increasing light gradudally - not always easy. I have found the month of March to be treacherous because suddenly, the sun clears houses and other obstacles, toasting plants that had been in shade all winter. My yard is aligned east-west, the center has no trees, and in summer gets strong light essentially all day. When I first moved here, I had Cymbidiums out in the open... they survived and bloomed but looked a bit bleached. 45% shade cloth fixed the problem, they look better and still bloom well. My Leptotes bicolor gets strong morning light, then is a bit more shaded in the afternoon. It will definitely acclimate to pretty bright light, but it does need to be done gently. If it is blooming for you indoors, and you have the space, if it ain't broken, no need to fix it... until you run out of space

I have heard people say that their plants that get time outside do do better.

I'm aiming to get as many outside as I can. - partiallly sheltered from the sun, obvs.

I love your white pots and the matching tray. Where did you get them?

Thanks! The white pots are just Ray's opaque plastic S/H pots. I got the white tray at Target. It's just melamine. I have some white melamine trays and white melamine plates that I put under the plants to catch overflow.
