Thank you Mandy, Zabeta, Paphlover (Ding ding ding!) and White Rabbit

Today ithe first flower has opened totally It does look a little different than when I bought it in bloom though! The colors are "stronger".

This was what the flowers looked like when I bought the orchid! Well it was almost done blooming by this time.

Funny to see the change in colors, I am just now searching about light and temperature and it affecting colors! Wow!

Usually the purple coloring of the leaves like that happens when they are getting maximum light. Your window is probably not getting the intense light as the grower. The purple leaves may turn back to green as time goes on but nothing to worry about, again it is just the light. The same goes for the flower color. Your plant is doing very well, don't change anything!
Congratulations and have fun!!...Jean

Thanks for the info Jean!

I am a little confused, if I give less intense light, wouldn't the colors also be less intense or maybe the same? Or could it be that the overall temperature of my home is just higher/lower than wherever it grew before it was with me?

I think the change in color of the bloom is because that plant is very happy in your conditions, and you should keep doing what you're doing.

Really pretty flower. It may also lighten as it gets older, I have one that does this. Also sometimes the bloom shape is a bit different. And I have no idea why this would be, but it be.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to update since the first flower opened in february.. It's the beginning of june now and I still have flowers on this orchid!

This is in may, the cascade got a little messy, because it's normally on the windowsill I have to move it a bit sometimes otherwise the spike will grow right up against the window.

And I snapped this picture yesterday

So it's still looking great! Although now that we've had a few hot days the flowers are dying faster I noticed.

It is doing other interesting things as well! It's making a new leaf, it's the second one this one is doing for me, the other one was last year somewhere.

The roots were never doing much, but they are making up for that right now!

That's not all, but it was the juiciest part ;D

By the way the camera on my phone picks up a lot of red, it's not like that but I thought it was a cool pic.
