Default Masdevallia sepals curling back…normal?

Masdevallia huayna picchu

This is my first masdevallia and I'm not sure why the sepals on the flower are curling backwards. Is this normal or is it unhappy about something?

Thanks!

Mine did exactly the same thing in the last month or two, so maybe it is normal. The dorsal sepal on mine lays back as well. The judges probably don't like it but I can live with it

Perfectly normal for many types of Masdevallia, but might be enhanced/accelerated by warm conditions or low humidity.

And, those are sepals.

Thanks for the correction. Updated.

I have it sitting in a tall vase (it wanted to tip over otherwise) with rocks and some water below (not touching the pot). My place is 15-20C and between 50%-60% humidity. Not enough?

It would probably appreciate somewhat cooler temps at night, and humidity closer to 80%. Hard to do better than you are indoors without a special set-up though.

Ok, I'll try putting it in my ensuite at night. I leave my bedroom window open, so that will cool it down, but it's far enough away that it won't get a draft or shock it with too much of a temp swing. Thanks!
