Absolutely true, but folks in NYC are blessed, as well, so be careful with assumptions.

Yes most of our water comes from the Bullrun watershed which is snow melt and rain. I've looked and haven't found any premade orchid fertilizers that include calcium and magnesium. But I did find an additive that is labeled 2-0-0 and specifically adds those two things. I'll try adding a little bit to my regular routine.
I've read about adding calcium to strength cell walls for any new growth. So that seems like it would be a good idea.
Thanks everyone for the thoughts and ideas.

You can mail order. There are available fertilizers for orchids intended to be mixed in pure water.

Search for "MSU RO Water Formula 13-3-15 8Ca-2Mg" or " MSU Orchid Fertilizer - RO/Rain/Tap Water Version" - This formulation is specifically designed for orchids with pure water (developed at Michigan State University) and does include Ca and Mg.

Agreed. Those and K-Lite are very good, but don't go for the liquid versions.
For one, why pay to have water shipped to you? Secondly, the liquids that are labeled that way actually do not have those formulas, and are actually much weaker, but the vendor doesn't seem to care that their products are labeled illegally.

Ordered from the internet. I always like to try my local businesses first, but I haven't seen anything like that locally. Thanks for the tips.
