Question about sunburn...

We just moved from a house in the city with pitiful lighting to a house with a large, unobstructed east facing window. I've been trying to closely monitor the plants and make adjustments if I felt they were getting too much light but I somehow overlooked this one

Is the damage just cosmetic or can it affect the plant's overall health? The discoloration is a deep purple, almost eggplant , I'm not sure how well the picture captures it.
