I have not had any success with my c.gaskellianas. Two of my plants are small but continue to show new growth throughout the winter as does the larger plant. I know they like to be on the dry side during winter but shouldn't I water the new growth? The plants are healthy and I would love to see a spike I the spring.

These don't have a real dormant dry rest according to OrchidWiz. Just a slightly drier few months in late winter/early spring. You should be able to water them when they are dry and then let them go completely dry before watering again. That is usually how I water all my Cattleyas. You can use the skewer method if you are not sure when they are dry. When a dry rest is mentioned, it still usually means they get some water, just less than when it is hot and sunny.

Thank-you ! My plants have been very dry this winter due to heater and fan, but now I will water.
