Stanhopea basket liner.

I have decided to try something different, so I have one on order and a nice hanging basket to put it in.

The problem is that the wires are good and far apart so as to allow the blooms thru. So, what's best to line it with? It has to be strong enough to hold back the moss and
bark, but not so strong that it stops the blooms.

Any suggestions please?

I've been trying my luck with 2 for about 18 months.The larger one I have in a wire basket lined with coconut fiber and the plant grows in moss.The smaller one is in a pot of bark but managed to give me a bloom that grew over the side of the pot.Oh,also a 3rd was bought last yr growing in a small slatted wooden basket but needs repotting badly.Good luck with yours!

Last fall I repotted all of my Gongora into setups identical to those described by DeaC with coconut fiber and moss. So far so good, we'll see come spring when the fulva should flower.

I like the coconut fiber, but I know a lot of growers will use newspaper to line their baskets. Its strong enough to hold the media, but soft enough to let the spikes through.

They do coco fibre liners that are coated with latex. I'm thinking way too tough.

I only have one Stan, and for only just over a year - I too wondered about the same thing. Some internet searching lead me to the newspaper suggestion, and that is what I have done with mine.

Didn't the paper pull apart? I was wondering if weaving some of that soft garden string radially around the basket so the blooms could push it apart would do the trick.

When we in the US say "coco fiber liner" we mean a soft disk of plain coco fiber, about 2cm thick, that fits into the basket and holds the medium. Do they have those in your part of Spain?

Do you reckon they will be soft enough to let the blooms thru?

I haven't been looking here yet, but I don't remember seeing many hanging baskets here.

No, the paper is still holding together after several months. I also was skeptical about that

I have read of people using the coco fiber basket liners, but pulling them so that they become much thinner.
