Default winter orchid care

Hi, I'm asking for advice on winter care for my orchids; they are in a small indoor green house with lights, a small fan and a humidifier that runs from 7am to 5 pm. I water about once a wk, and use liquid seaweed every 3 wks. Most are seedlings. I've noticed some new pseudobulbs emerging, and root growth. Most are doing very well(plump bulbs), but I've read that environmental changes should be made in winter. Please, can someone give me some peace of mind. Thanks. Happy New Year!

Hi Mo Boggie,

Many people treat most seedlings differently from adults of the same plant, trying to keep them growing continuously if warm temperatures and light can be provided. Sounds like you are doing well with your current care.

You don't mention fertilizer, which is more important to healthy orchid seedlings than is seaweed. I like to fertilize seedlings with very low dilutions at every watering, and use seaweed extracts maybe once a month to six weeks. You can learn a lot about fertilizer on this Board and on the First Rays site.

Orchids? Which orchids? Some need different care over the winter, and some don't.
