Hello
Question Hello

Hello everyone! Jeff and I (Ben) are new to this and have a passion and love for orchids. Both of us might post on here but we'll always leave a name. We're a gay married couple that live's in central Washington, going to school for Agricultural Biotechnology and living in a basement apartment with grow light everywhere for our passion. I saw this page and said why the hell not, I might know something and i'll be glad to hear from someone else as well. I started this account today in hope that someone would know or have try to cross a brassovola with a lady slipper orchid?

Thanks
Ben

Welcome! We look forward to hearing more. Brassavolas and slippers are in completely different tribes, and probably have different chromosome numbers, so it's unlikely they would cross without some agricultural biotechnology. But go for it anyway.

Brassavolas and slipper orchids are quite dissimilar orchids , so I don't think that any attempts at cross pollination would be successful - tho the imagination does have fun speculating on what the progeny might look like! But, they may be only as closely related as a cat might be to a dolphin; both are mammals, but not closely related enough to be crossbred. That said - I have been surprised hearing of successful crosses of orchids where I wouldn't have thought it to be possible! I'm just a hobbiest, and certainly don't know all there is to know on the subject!

How do you feel about GMO? Anything is possible.
