Weeping Flower Spikes ?

Hi There.

First month of summer is almost gone here. So the growing season is full on.

Need some info on orchids that have weeping flower spikes. As I have room for many different orchids.

Trying to source orchids that tolerate an environment with a temp of 32c to 5c or 90f to 40f.

The light varies greatly from full sun to no sun and everything in between. There are so many variation to the climate here it is very exciting.

If you touch the clear droplets, they are sticky. I think the orchids secrete this at vulnerable times of insect attack. The sugar attracts ants who will attack a lot of the insects that might otherwise eat the orchids.

The question is about the flower stem growing in a downward direction(weeping), as hanging basket.

my best advice is to contact a local Orchid Society or 2 and ask the local members what they grow.
You may be able to expand the number of species you can look at if you have access to an airconditioned environment in Summer.

In the meantime take a look at Gongoras.

Some Gongora would be perfect for your conditions (provided you can give them shade) but some wouldn't appreciate the lower end of your expected temperature range. My galeata has been in a room that saw 40F (4C) hanging in a window that was coated with .5cm of ice on the inside on several mornings two winters ago. The plant never blinked. It didn't grow much over the winter, but it didn't sustain any damage either. It bloomed incredibly well this past fall. Now my fulva saw 50F (10 C) last winter and lost several leaves. Do your research!
