I have about 10 dend. nobile put at the south window with temp. about 60-85 deg (little water every 2 weeks). They start to have flower buds and also with few new growths about 2 inch high for each 5 inch pot. With the new growths, should I start to use fertilizer?

My nobile is flowering now, also. I have started watering lightly since I think keeping it too dry will destroy the blooms. I think you need to listen to the plants. I will not fertilize until new growth is noted.

I would agree with gngrhill, my nobiles never do what they're supposed to be doing at specific time of the year, so I just try to follow the plant, because otherwise I don't see any bloom.

With the dens that you are resting, does it matter if the medium goes quite dry?

My Nobile flowers in my winter. I gave it water when it looked dry, just a splash to dampen the roots. As for fertilizing unless your plants are in an artificial medium then they should be getting enough nutrients. I often forget to feed my orchids and they all grow like weeds.

Part of the problem is that one plant, for example, there are 2-3 raiseny canes which have dropped most if not all their leaves and a 4" keiki attached to one all green and plump but has already dropped the center leaf you mentioned.
