Default Fragrances!

Just had an idea for a new topic! (Sorry if it already exists!)

What are the best and the worst frangrance on your orchid collection?

My best is Coelogyne cristata - beautiful and heavenly fragrant while the flowers are young.

My worst is Rhynchostylis gigantea! Beautiful plant! Beautiful flowers! I love that girl, but in terms of smell, not that great. But, seriously that's my favourite orchid anyway.

There is an old sticky thread Orchids with a strong scent - but it's long, so there's no harm in a new thread, with a slightly different take on it

Of mine, I love the fragrance of my Brassocatanthe Little Mermaid - smells like roses, and the scent is quite strong early in the day.

My Cattleya Tropical Pointer also has a very nice, sweet floral fragrance; previous years, I had been aware of a fragrance from it, but it seemed quite subtle - this year (perhaps because it was in the bathroom) it was impossible to miss the lovely fragrance.

My Neofinetia falcata (shojyo x shutennou) also has a wonderful sweet floral fragrance - my other Neos have nice fragrance, but it's quite subtle, this one was much more noticeable (tho it too was in the bathroom while in bloom, so perhaps that is why it seemed so).

I don't think I have any with unpleasant fragrance.

I have plenty of fragrant plants in my garden, so fragrant orchids in the greenhouse are just a bonus. I think my favorite would be Den. speciosum, which is almost overwhelming as soon as I open the greenhouse door. None smell bad - I wouldn't buy any that did.

My Cattleya Cherry Song 'Pink' is very fragrant reminds me of soft roses. The blooms and fragrance lasted a month this year.

My best scent is from a NOID zygopetalum, it's a nice floral scent. I have a few which are supposed to be 'nicely scented', such as a miltoniopsis and a cycnoches which I find quite unpleasant but that may just be my sense of smell. I also have a few phalaenopsis that are supposed to be scented, but I can't smell a thing!

Sometimes the stinky ones are so beautiful that you open exceptions. Look at this beauty! luckily, her scent is not strong!

My worst smelling one is a Catt LC. Bigtime’ GL #9 I do not like it. It is a weird and smells kind of like bug spray I don't know how to explain it it but yuk. The Flowers are so pretty.

My Onc are the best smelling. My Twinkle and sherry baby I love to smell. They smell amazing. My miltonia can fill up the whole house with the smell of fresh flowers I love that. The smell is just flower scent but it is strong and nice.

Don't know what my favorite is, but I have a lot that I love
Neostylus Lou sneary
Little mermaid smells citrusy like walkeriana to me, interesting that it smells like roses to someone else. Bizarre how we interpret things differently.
Also, Cattleya Eldorado, like springtime cattleyas
Lc. Maria song "h&r' (just won the fall shows fragrance award), sweet floral with a hint of citrus
Sedirea japonica- like fruit loops cereal, fruity, citrusy
Phal Bellina/violacea- fruity, citrusy
C. Jenmanii smells weird to me.
Eurychone rothschidilana like cinnamon and a hint of plastic
Angraecum lemforde white beauty- smells the whole room at night and is hard to describe, but if you like jasmine and gardenias, you'll probably like it...um....

Vanda tessellata and its hybrids (sweet and/or spicy scent)
Vanda cristata and its hybrids (sweet scent)
Ctt. Chocolate Drop 'Volcano Queen' (to my nose reminds me of fresh cherries and roses)
Encyclia bractescens (faint but very sweet fragrance)
Encyclia phoenicea (vanilla and/or chocolate scent)
Phalaenopsis I'Hsin Kiwi (strong heady fragrance)
Oncidium Twinkle (vanilla-ish)
Burr. Nelly Isler (strong, heady fragrance)
Pretty much most encyclias have a fragrance, many of them strong, some of them very very pleasant.

And I know everyone mentions this one, but believe me it is for good reason. Oncidium Sharry Baby 'Sweet Fragrance'
