Cym with a spike in November?

I have a cymb I bought in Madeira Island 8 years ago and it never bloomed.
Now, it has a spike in the beginning of the winter.
Are there cymbs that flower in this time of the year?

Damned if I know, but two of mine are in spike too.

I've had them for more than a year, but they never showed any sign of blooming before now.

How are the temps in South Spain now?

Well, it is down to 10 at night now, and threatens 7 tonight and 5 tomorrow night, so the greenhouse is now packed solid with every tender plant out there. If I can afford it, then I shall build a poly tunnel next year to take the tender stuff that's OK as long as it doesn't hit 1-2 C

This weekend temps droped here to 14-5 ºC and next week predictions say 18-6ºC (sometimes reaching 2ºC).
Until last week we had most days with 23-15ºC. So, a major change.

I'm not sure if those spikes (yes, it's more than one) can handle such low temps.

Down under in NZ Cymbidiums flower mostly in the spring however there are some flower in the summer months and the odd one in the winter. Have a look at the plants breeding if you have a label it should provide you with a good indication. To see it flower after eight years must certainly be a good feeling.

Certainly is. But I don't have a label and can't remember how the flowers are which makes it even more interesting.

When it blooms take a photo and post it someone out there may know what it is.
Enjoy the wait. It is now our summer and I have four Cymbidiums coming into full spike ready for our summer orchid show in January once they flower I will post some photos.

SI? Oh yes. The schoool started insisting on Centigrade back in the late 60s, early 70s. Never been able to coe with Farenheit since.

I was told not to let the Cyms go below 5C so mine are all in. Mine are both double spikes, - one was a treble, but the third one blasted.

Mine are all out and they have been under far less that 5ºC in winter without any problems. But the spikes, under these conditions, maybe won't develop and die.
Let's see what happens.
