Default Orchids have taught me....

Patience!

Some time after "the big freeze" that wiped out my 20-year orchid collection, Rod Venger gave me a 2" pot containing a tiny, 2-pseudobulb Dendrobium speciosum plant. The largest growth was about 1.5" tall.

Now, some 10-or-more years later, a "first bloom seedling" has emerged:

As a reference, that's an 8" basket it's in, the growth bearing the two spikes on the left is 27" tall, and the overall width, tip-of-spikes to leaves on the far right, is 52".

Here's a close-up of the pleasantly perfumed blossoms.

That's strange. I always thought D. superbum was a syn for D. anosmum. If so it should look like

IOSPE PHOTOS See the syn. section.

As difficult it may be to patiently wait for a 'slow bloomer', the reward is always worth it! Congrats, and great job, Ray!

Your right Ross. Note the "edit" comment in my original post.

Ross, Ray's plant is Dendrobium speciosum, not superbum

Got that! I was just thinking I was losing it. Thanks for the edit Ray. Great growing job and really nice plant.
