I am a crazy or child lady now.
I got my 27th orchid a few days ago. I had to move my orchids inside last month I am running out of room. So I set up an little indoor green house with lights for the orchids during the winter.
I have to stop at 30 orchids. I would like to maybe find some new homes but I don't want them to die. I think I will surprise my mom and ship her one or 2.
During the summer it was easy to acre for them and water them. Now it is a chore. So keeping the humidity up in the little indoor green house helps.
I am feeling a little crazy with all these plants. But now that I have gotten many to rebloom I am hooked.
I have a list of all my orchids here. 90% are from trader joes.

I'm thinking surprising a mom with an orchid is like surprising her with a puppy.

Gifting some plants (to the willing) is a good idea. If you ship, be mindful of the weather, where you are, and where the recipient is. Too hot or too cold and they will receive only a dead plant.
I sympathize regarding orchid limits. Right now I am at my maximum, so I am generally not buying plants, though I did buy one for about $2 U.S. a month ago; only purchase this year. I have mostly given away, or rarely sold, some others, and have some duplicates I plan to gift when they spike again. I have accepted some divisions as gifts from friends. Cutting back on orchids is sort of like cutting back on eating cake. You don't have to give it up completely, but cutting back to the point where it is a rare reward makes the reward more special and satisfying.

Yeah, they are cute as puppies, but a nuisance when teens. Then there's the happy time, and all too soon they are old. We lost our first dog a couple of years back, and it still hurts. We have a teenage Lab now, so hopefully he will be around for a while.

Thanks guys for understanding. Yes I know about shipping live things too I even have heat packs from when I shipped live fish. So I might try my hand at shipping orchids.
As for puppies. We just lost out old Pit a few months ago. I still have 2 other dogs. I am itching for a Puppy. I have never had a real puppy or my own. Only rescue adults but my Shepherd mix was 4 months old when we rescued her. Still not a tiny puppy.

Thirty? Just thirty? Just kidding. I think it is very reasonable to set a limit on how many to which you wish to give attention. I also limit the number of orchids (although my number is higher). I have also chosen to get rid of most of the larger orchids and many that I had just because they were considered, by others, to be worth having (though I wasn't all that fond of them). I then bought some orchids that really interested me. Some of these are miniatures that live in jars or a small greenhouse and need very little attention. I keep my orchid collection small enough so that I don't need to look at the tags to know which orchid I am watering, even when out of bloom.

I sympathize about losing your dog (both bil and snowflake). We lost one to cancer a little over a year ago. We have one now that is, for the moment, living with congestive heart failure (but the further decline has started). It is not LIKE losing a family member, it IS losing a family member.

Yeah. If you can't grasp that, you shouldn't have a dog. Sorry yours is having problems.

So sorry about your bullie. They are wonderful dogs. 33 is a good age to take on a first puppy. It will be more work than all your orchids combined for about 6 months. And, the work has to be done NOW! all around the clock. But it's worth it.
