The only experience I have with Phals is killing them...I had close to 30 at one point because my husband would pick one up for me EVERY time he went to the grocery store. This is one of the 2 remaining ones, I had to forbid him from buying me more and I moved on to orchids with pbulbs because they fare much better for me when I annihilate their entire existing root systems. I mounted my 2 remaining Phals this spring, they both had exactly 1 root left and added kelp to their watering regime. They have rewarded me with lots of new roots and a couple new (stunted) leaves. I don't see how this Phal could have rallied enough to put out a spike and I thought the spikes emerged higher than the roots but it sure looks mitten shaped to me...any input greatly appreciated
