Hi all,
My company had an event and put out a bunch of mini-phals, but then were just going to pitch them afterwards, so I ended up with 3 of them.

They are just in some relatively densely packed sphagnum moss.

I don't mind re-potting them into something else, but I don't know what would be best. I feel like a chunky orchid bark mix would just have their roots wrapped around like 2 pieces of bark. I also have other sphagnum moss that's loose.
Otherwise, any recommendations?

Anything else you'd recommend about mini-phals that are different from their normal-sized counterparts?

Thanks for any advice!

I grow my larger phals in chunky moss but I grow my mini's in a moss and bark mix. If they are in just bark they dry out too fast and almost die. I saved them and they are doing great in the mix. Even in the mix I have to water them about once a week whereas my larger phals can go about 10 days.

I rather like mini phals. I got three last year, and another 4 this year. They usually have their roots butchered and are rammed into a tiny pot. I pick out the moss and repot them into a fine bark mix that is fast draining. I like a pot that is much wider, about 7 to 8 inches in diam and no more than 3 inches deep.

The three from last year flowered well, grew, and one threw a new spike last month. All three have new spikes coming.

I've done this a few time snow. You definitely want to retain moisture and provide air. So probably a Small to medium sized bark with some shredded sphag and a little perlite would do the trick. If they are low on roots, be sure to stabilize the plants in the pot.

Good Luck!
