So in my most recent orchid retail therapy session, I decided to try my hand at a Vanilla! It is currently pretty small, but I know (if I'm lucky!) this is going to end up being a big baby!
I wanted to get ahead of the game and figure out the best way to mount/support it as it gets bigger. I'm growing indoors (live in Vancouver BC and outdoor is not an option in winter) in a shaded south facing windowsill. I have a few clamp lights so I can provide some artificial lighting if the mount doesn't fit into the windowsill. Ideally I don't want to be pulling it off its mount and upgrading all the time. I've looked thru a few forums and websites and it seems like trellis, cages, and mossy poles are frequently used. I also found this youtube video:

I like the idea of this kind of mount, especially because the aerial roots can dig in wherever they want, but I'm worried about regulating the water in it... I also have a nice looking arbutus pole that I could glue moss onto, but I have a feeling I would be spending the rest of my life spraying it all day...
I'm wondering what kinds of mounts people have used and what they found was most successful, what types of challenges they have come across, etc. I'd like to get this little guy off of this flimsy stick soon so it can get used to its new setup and start wowing me with it's miraculous growth! Thanks in advance!
