Forecast shows lows predicted in the 50s, highs in the 60s and 70s until at least Sunday Nov. 8. I already brought in Phals and other more cold-sensitive types. I will likely leave some orchids out at least until next Sunday, and possibly through Nov. 11 for cold-tolerant ones, since there is no forecast of temperatures lower than 44 F (7 C) in the forecast through the 11th.

I always forget that it isn't so cold in other places....
I just have the pitcher plants, figs and indoor strawberries outside right now, protected by the porch from frost.

I moved to Austin in 2010 and this will be my first year I've left all the orchids outside into November. The 10 day forecast doesn't make me think I'll bring them inside any time soon either!!

Some years I get no frost at all, but most years it happens. There are a lot of plants to move, including a lot of cacti, succulents and tropicals. I try to get it done by mid November. I keep my eye on the weather, because we usually get at least several day's warning. The earliest I've had frost has been November 20.

Isurus have you been inundated with flood waters?
As far as temps go, if not for a few cold nights, it's been a very warm autumn. Last year we had snow on 17 Nov, this year it's warm and sunny. Wish I could have left mine out this long but the weather's just too unstable. Until April...

Luckily I live on the second floor of an apartment complex that sits on top of a hill! The orchids have gotten two weekends of torrential rain, so I think they're pretty well flushed of accumulated fertilizers.

I am debating on what to do with my Den kingianum.
Night temperatures will be around mid to low 40's, day high around mid 50's.
If I leave it outside, it will get quite a bit of rain, which does not work well for a winter rest for watering. It looks like it is still working on growing/maturing a couple of canes though.
I could put it inside, into a cool north facing window & reduce watering ...
What do you guys think?

My kingianums are also putting up new growths. They go out days, but I still have to bring them in at night as we have been getting frost most nights.
As was suggested by esticon seca, I am continuing to water until the growth are mature, then I will stop around Thanksgiving.

I brought my outdoor catts in last night because the temperatures dipped into the mid-40s. They're back out today, though!
