My local big box store (Lowes) is carrying "equitant" orchids- smaller than dwarfs; really tiny.

Of course two oncidums went home with me; only 4" tall and both flowering, one with two inflouresces. Neat.

Look for them.

"Equitant" applies to Oncidiums, it means the two sides of the leaves fold into one V-shaped leaf. Crosses are more hardy than true species (in my experience.)

Years ago when these were more popular, I used to grow a large number of "equitant" Oncidiums and still grow a few. I sometimes wondered if they had some kind of biological clock built in and when the alarm went off, they promptly commited suicide!! You could go to bed with the plant looking perfectly healthy and arise to find a small pile of green leaves on the floor!! It does seem like these are making somewhat of a come back recently. I'm glad to see that. Perhaps the best bang for your buck in the orchid kingdom in terms of color and flowers!
