It is most likely some type of Miltonia...

Here's the pics. Like I say, I was sold this as an odontoglossum. It's VERY different from the miltonias that were on sale.

The flowers fade gradually with time so there is quite a difference between the first ones and the last on a spike.

Wow, it DOES look a lot like mine! Does yours have dark magenta blotches on the column too?
The plant doesn't look like my miltonia (which I have yet to see bloom), but the buds have an odd "hitchhiker's thumb" look that made me think it would be a brassia...and then it bloomed, and no longer looked like one!

Do you mean the spike stem? Mine is a solid dark green with no blotching.

The 'bib' of the flower is a fabulous purple red when fresh, but fades badly as it ages.
