What does everybody use for flourescent lights? Do you feel warm white or cool white bulbs are better and does anyone use "special" gro-bulbs?
Does anyone know of, or has done, a comparison study.
I am just wondering if it makes a difference. Anita

T5 6000–7000 Kelvin. Output of T5 vs T8 is significantly higher. Not aware of any published studies on difference between cool white etc. with more uneven distribution of wavelength vs. specialty grow iights that mimic more closely full spectrum black-body radiation.

I use the fluorescent "grow" lights on my shelves to supplement the the light from my North window. They are just the ones made for under shelves and I take the plastic covers off. I have 3 hanging together in one small area. There is a slight warmth from them but not hot or anything. I have more in other areas too. My plants seem to like everything. I have catts in sheath that I have owned over a year.

All my lamps are the four foot size, I have both T5 and T8. I understand that the T5's will be phased out eventually.
Wintergirl, the lights in the picture look somewhat purpelish and dark, is that how the photo came out or are they like that?

There is a faint purple cast in the light but I think it looks dark because of the angle of the picture and it was later in the day. I have another grow light (not pictured), the bulb is slightly fuller and no purple tint.
