Dendrobium advice
Default Dendrobium advice

hello, i have had this Dendrobium for about 8 months or so. It recently lost started losing it's leaves(about a month ago it started to). As you can see, now it has no leaves, but the stalk (or whatever the proper word for it is) is still green. Is there any hope for this plant or is it pretty well dead. Thanks for you help.

Welcome to OB! You've come to the right place for advice for your cids !

How often have been watering your den and what type of fertilizer are you feeding it?

It could be one of the deciduous Denrobiums (Nobile type). In that case this is normal.

As long as it doesn't get mushy or get dry and brown you should be fine, Dens in my opinion are pretty tough and tolerant. It helps if you know what kind it is then somebody on here could give you better advice because Dens and Bulbos happen to have the most diversity of all the orchid families. I used to despise the heck out of them but now I can't seem to get enough of them. Some can be a real challenge to bloom though. IMO.

Dendrobium advice
Default watering

i was watering it every 4 to 5 days with peter's orchid mix (it was 30-10-10) and i was watering it 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. They no longer sell that and i run out, so now i'm using better gro orchid plus 20-14-13 at 1/2 teaspoon per gallon. By the way i'm not positive on the exact type of Dendrobium that it is. It was on clearance when i bought it at Lowes and had no identification. Thanks for all of the quick replies.

I reckon its probably a den nobile hybrid and the dropping of the leaves is totally normal. If so, you should stop or slow watering it now until you see flowers appearing along the cane-length.

If you keep watering it as you are it will probably grow keikis and not flowers. Look up Den nobile cultivation in google.
