Hi all,

I am just reading through this noting the Michigander theme. I'm in Adrian and am hopping over the Lansing show, and the one in Ann Arbor. I've been to Porter's and love it: they have sales on their open house days. The great thing is that Bill Porter is very helpful to new folks.

Taylor's Orchids in Monroe was also a good place to go. They are a little more expensive than Porter's but Ron was so nice to talk to and helped me pick some good ones.

General question: do you guys have to bring humidifiers into the rooms where you grow your plants? Even with humidity trays the humidity in my apartment can't seem to break about 45%.

Maybe I will meet some ofyou at the Lansing show!

Emily

Hi Emily,

There are quite a few Michiganders on this site, covering most of the state. I haven't heard from any in my neighborhood of Redford though.

I just put a humidifier in my plant room last week to bring the humidity to 60-70%. Like you, my trays were only keeping it at 40% or so. I go through about a gallon of water a day right now with the forced air heat on.
Once spring comes, the room stays stable at 65% and I don't need the humidifier any longer.

What & where is Porters? I have never heard of Taylors Orchids; where are they and what do they have?

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris,

This sounds good...I will definitely try to put in a humidifier.

Porter's is outside of Lansing: Porter's Orchids-Quality Orchids for the Home Environment.
Taylor's is in Monroe, but they don't have a website. I would just google "Taylor's orchid greenhouse."

Luckily my wife bought one, so I didn't have to ask about keeping them.
