I had a couple of plants that had something like that. Last month I took one of them to an orchid society meeting for an expert opinion. Everyone seemed to think it was broad mites. I used a product made by Bayer that says it is for spider mites, it seems to have helped, at least it isn't getting any worse. It seemed to be only on phals and paphs and it killed the plants quite quickly.
Good luck...Jean

The regular bayer products state they "control" spider mites/mites...but that is not eradication. They will kill some of the adults but likely no better than knocking them off w/a good, strong stream of water.
A miticide is the only sure way to eradicate mites however, not all miticides are equal...some only kill the mobile life stages and do nothing against the eggs.

Get an acaricide (proper anti mite treatment) and treat several times, not just once or twice. Make sure it gets into the medium.

We don't get it here but I think it has a miticide included. Quite a few People in the U.S. seem to like it for an all round systemic.

Well round here, they never suggest it for mites, instead they advise using an acaricide.

Yeah, it essential that you understand the life cycle. A lot of pesticides kill pests but not their eggs. We get a lot of problems with cushion scale. You have to spray, which kills the adults, but then you have to spray two weeks later, to kill the scale bugs that have hatched out of the eggs.

The Bayer rose systemic I use is also for mites. Roses are very prone to everything.
Other weapons in the arsenal against mites are oils and predator insects.
