Help please! Den. lawesii complete mystery
My d. lawesii is mounted on a cool log. It has 2 old canes and 2 new canes. The canes are growing soooo slow
I'm just not sure what I'm missing. I've had it for over a year and nothing much seems to have happened in that year. I understand d.lawesii require moist conditions with lower light levels, it receives a weak fertilizer every 2 weeks. Any recommendations?
I live in the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina where temperatures rarely exceed 85 degrees. How can I help this little beauty along?

This is an ignorant reply...being as I have never grown lawesii, just a couple of it's relatives. I'd suggest you are perhaps growing in too little light, if nothing is happening.

Were you able to see the image in the previous post? I'm struggling with adding pictures for some reason.

Try growing it in a pot with medium grade bark instead.
How often do you water?
How much light do you provide the plant? They may need to be grown in moderately bright indirect light, not bright shade.
How're the roots looking?

Thank you King of orchid growing!
I am reporting my lawesii in bark in a hanging basket. I was told by the grower I purchased the plant from that they do well when their canes are not spiked upright, do you have any suggestions on this?
The plant gets watered every 3-5 days depending on the time of year so it is staying pretty moist, roots all appear healthy. It is in a pretty shaded spot however so I am thinking of moving it to a brighter location.
Thanks for your input! I haven't met any growers here in North Carolina who can give me much in the way of pointers on this plant.

You don't have to worry about it growing upright if you don't prop it up. It will naturally want to droop. Just tie the orchid down into the pot and when new roots grow, it will start to anchor the plant in place while reorienting itself into the natural position of growing. If the pot is tipping, you can place the functional pot into a larger clay pot for support.
