Root or spike on phalaenopsis
Default Root or spike on phalaenopsis

Hi everyone. Can anyone tell me if this is a root or a spike because of the size of this plant, I'm not sure if a baby phalaenopsis can grow a spike now but it's growing differently from the other new roots

Oh man that's tough! I don't think I can tell whether it's a root or a spike. It could be either at this point. Let's bet?! Haha jk. I will be interested to know what it turns out to be.

It's possible that it is a spike. I had one that had something that looked like that. It just stayed there for about a year then it finally started to grow and it was indeed a spike. It may be stalled and then it may take off.

Right either one at this point. Or a stalled spike. Or even a keiki, lol

Why would it be stalled? Sorry, I am new to orchids and so far has only been seeing new root and leaf growth.

I have no idea. They just sometimes do that, they do things in there time line not yours. Which is why we orchid growers have to have patience.
