Hello all.
Been shopping today and needed so cactus compost so went to local garden centre.....then i saw them, reduced price phals!!! They were £10 down to £1 each!!! So i took the best 2. They have dead spikes but all leaves are very healthy looking along with the roots!
What should i do regarding spikes?

Thanks in advance

If the spikes are not brown and dried up leave them alone and put your Phal outside in some shade and water it. Sometimes they will rebloom for you. If its spike is brown and dried up then cut it off down around the bottom of your spike looking for the first node. Make sure when you cut the spike you clean and sterilize the scissors before you use them. Then place a little cinnamon on the cut area so infection don't happen to form there. Happy Growing. Are your Phals noids or do they have names?

Cut the spike and repot in a mix you will know. Leaving it in the old mix is a recipe for future disaster in my opinion, as it may be packed in spag moss which if not carefully watched, will hold moisture too long and the roots will rot.

Before doing anything, read the sticky on the top of this Discussion on "The Phal Abuse Ends Here". That should answer most of your questions and certainly how to repot a new acquisition.

Some phals just have floppy leaves and there is nothing wrong with them.

They may be dry but they will perk up with good care. The leaves may still be floppy but the wrinkles should get better.
