Is this a dendrobium keiki?
Months ago I knocked over this NOID dendrobium I have (pictured above), and fortunately all that happened was an old leafless cane broke off. I like the reddish color the old canes develop so I didn't throw it out and left it carelessly by the window. I hadn't looked at it til recently, when I noticed this little nodule.
It's very small. I took this picture a week ago and it already has three more roots, but the bulbous thing itself hasn't increased in size.
It's still sitting by the window in the same spot. I've sprayed the roots with water a couple of times. My question is, what do I do for it now? Water it, fertilize it, plant the cane into a new pot, or not? Is this a keiki? And maybe someone can help me with identifying this dendrobium. Any advice appreciated!

That is definitely a keiki. I would lay the cane in some moist moss and let it grow. That plant may be a den. kinganum but without the flowers it is difficult to identify. hope this helps

I looked up den. kingianum and it does look similar, here it is in bloom. Thanks!
Do you think I should fertilize it at all? Like spray it with dilute fertilizer in water? Or is it getting plenty of energy from its cane host?

Dendrobiums grow rather quickly if you give them more sun, and more water. they are not a low light orchid, unless other wise specified. (i do know there are a few low light dends out there).

you can water with a dilute fertilizer if you want to,but be sure not to over fertilize as that can burn/kill the root tips.

Keiki update! Here it is today. As you can see the little plant itself hasn't grown any but it is putting out a lot of roots. There's even a very new one that is just a green tip right now. The very first root it put out shriveled a bit at the tip, I think because I didn't water it for the first week or two (took me a while to notice it). I've been spraying it a couple of times a week but not with fertilizer. I just ordered some DynaGrow KLN Rooting Concentrate which I want to use on this when it arrives in a week or so. Right now I have it sitting so that the roots hang in the air and there's a little plate below that the water can collect on so as to give it some extra moisture. I think I will add some moist sphagnum to the plate soon as someone suggested.

That is indeed wonderful root growth. Should be ready for potting up soon.

Plant it in fine bark, with a small ball of sphagnum around the roots. If you lay the cane down so that it is under the bark on a bed of moss, it may throw more keikis. Dens are frighteningly easy to propagate like this and even if a cane looks far gone, you can almost always bring it back.
