HELP!!! Will this phal make it?
This phal is in bloom. I have been treating for mild case of mealy bug. I noticed the roots at the soil looked rotten. While repotting and trimming roots this happened. Is it worth sweating over? Or should I pitch it? Dont know what to do with either part. It was a rescue from last year and this is its first blooming.

Well, I'd bet most folks would tell you to clip off the flower, put it in water, and chuck the plant. If it were me, I'd try to save it because any time I pull an orchid out of a situation like this, I learn something. I'd probably pot it up and try to coax it into producing a new leaf. I've had orchids do that, and it always amazes me. The roots really look like they could make it. You can't sphag and bag because of the spike.
It depends on how attached you are to the thing. Is the flower beautiful? Do you have room to baby this orchid in the hopes of saving it? It could be a long, long time before you see anything.
If you keep it, I'd put some hydrogen peroxide on the crown. Having the leaves pop off like that might be a sign of something else going on.

Looks like it's a goner to me. The roots don't look that good. If you want to play around I'd try to put the roots in a coat of spag moss and baby it. (no bag) Maybe a leaf might possibly grow if you want to experiment. Me, I'd probably leave the flower & spike too.

Frankly, the treatment cost more than one purchased today.

And there you have it, mimigirl! Most folks suggest pitching the plant. I don't think it costs me a cent more to try to save it, but I'm kind of an oddball that way.

I dont have a lot of patience. I would love to save it for the second time. I guess I will pot the part with roots and see how long I can stand the suspense. Cut the flowers off is the way to go since there is mealy bug stuff in the flowers. Thanks everyone!

Feh, IMO also not worth it. ESPECIALLY if it is riddled with bugs.
