Unhappy Lighting question

My wife, from the Philippines, bought a condo there for our retirement. I was all excited about growing orchids on the balcony, given the tropical weather. I looked at the paperwork today and discovered the balcony faces northeast. Do I have any hope, or should I just jump?

I would think that Phals would love those conditions, and possibly even Stanhopea and Gongora. That would keep me from jumping!

I just posted this in another thread, but it may give you some hope about your north balcony. I have phals, catts, vandas, milts, epidend, dendrob, even a masdie.

I grow my orchids in front of a north facing sliding glass doors. One rack is on wheels so I can actually use the door. I open the door for fresh air for the plants. I add extra lights (Walmart grow lights tied up under shelf) since it is a north view. I have a shear curtain for my phals as it is too much for them without it. Picture taken towards end of day.

I guess it's time to research intermediate-hot growing shade lovers! Then I would keeps a select handful inside that you love under lights.

@subrosa thanks for saving me (20 floors)!
@wintergirl Thanks! So in my case it would be which could thrive on the balcony without the bulbs...or maybe add a fixture out there.
@theloyalplum Yes...now that I know there's such a category as intermediate-hot shade lover 😊
