Default New Memeber - Grand Prize Winner

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I just went to the South Florida Orchid Expo this past weekend (Saturday) in Miami with the intention of educating ourselves and maybe buying an orchid.
I signed us up for the raffle while my hubby parked the truck (he let us out at the door) and filled out two tickets.
We had a great time at the show, met some very informative growers and bought a Tokyo Blue, Vanda.
Sunday evening I got a call from Martin Motes informing me I won the grand prize at the expo!
The prize is 65 orchids, potting supplies, food supplies, professional photo, baskets and two books from Mr. Motes and his lovely wife.
They asked if I could come down to pick all this up but we live an hour away and it was late.
Mr. Motes politely invited me to pick everything up at his orchid compound the next day.
I drove out to Homestead and met him and his wife, they were so gracious and nice. They helped me load everyhing up in my car, signed copies of their books and sent me on my way.
I still cannot believe my luck, I'm so excited sorting through everything and setting up my backyard into my new orchid sanctuary.
I will have lots of questions for the forum and I do apologize for this rambling post but I thought I should put my new found luck into perspective.
Kind Regards,

GRAND PRIZE..double WOW!!!!

Congradulations Sylvia. With having 65 new orchids you'll need to get advice from OB. I'm not in the least a tiny bit jealous...I'm a lot jealous. You really scored big time. Take some pictures for us.

Thanks! I will try to post some pic's in the next couple of days. I have some beauties that were not labeled so I don't know what they are! I look forward to educating myself. Do dendrobium's like the indoors? I would like to keep some inside because they are so beautiful. Do any other varieties like the indoors? Maybe I have it but don't know.
Thanks again!

Congrats!!! I'm located in Miami as well, near The Falls Shopping Center if you know where that is.

I'm so excited for you! I'm a new orchid afficionado and I'm thinking about joining the Miami Orchid Society. Are you associated with them at all? It might be a good idea to help you take care of those 65!!! orchids!!

I would also be happy to help you at all if I can with my limited knowlege. I've been growing Phals on my porch here with some great results for a few years but thats the extent of my experiance. I look foreward to hearing more about your new collection!

Way to go Sylvia!
To quote the movie Napoleon Dynamite, "Luh-cky!"

You asked about what orchids like the indoors...there are a few that would be great! I know my phals really enjoy being "comfortable" inside at room temerature most of the time.

Did you get a large assortment of types of orchids? This is so exciting Sylvia! How special to receive a collection (that usually takes a long time to develop)!
