I was wondering what would cause phals to produce smaller spikes with less blooms over the course of several years. The plants in question (8 or 9 plants) are all between 5 and 9 years old. At first they produced tall spikes full of blooms but the spikes have gotten much shorter over the years with only 3 or 4 blooms. They are repotted every year after they stop blooming. At that time the potting mix and pot is changed, it is potted according to size of root system, the old/bad roots are trimmed off, etc. Their location in the home has not changed. They are fertilized with DynaGro "Grow" during the spring and summer and DynaGro "Bloom" during the fall and winter. I am having trouble finding anything on the internet about why this happens. Is it simply the age of the plant? Thank you for any direction you can offer!

probably not enough light, although I'm all ears to hear what more experienced growers say.

I'd agree with not enough light.

Even though you haven't changed anything in the way you grow inside, is it possible that any trees outside your home are now shading the window(s) that they are grown in more than they used too? That would be my guess.

Only other thing I can think of is the fertilizer. Are you using it according to the package directions or are you using it at 1/2 or better yet 1/4 strength. Weakly/weekly is best. Do you also give your plant a watering with just plain water to flush out built-up salts?

Other than that, I got nothing................
