Phalaenopsis Spike or root growth?
Default Phalaenopsis Spike or root growth?

Hi,

I noticed my surviving Phalaenopsis has a new growth but I can't be sure if it is a spike or a root or it's something else? Appreciate if the experts can take a look and let me know what is it.

I live in Malaysia and though weather is humid, during the day I notice the roots always get so dry looking. Wondering if I should increase watering?

Thanks in advance.

Definitely a root and even if this had been a spike, I think I would not let this phal spike right now. It looks to be in REALLY bad shape and needs to grow more leaves!

This phal looks really wet as it is, I would not increase watering at all. I'd water it when the medium dries out completely.

Yeah, it was under scorching sun when I was away. My in law didn't know and put it right under the sun and then there was a thunderstorm. So it got sunburnt and drowned as well

I just mist it before taking the picture, hence the wetness. The skewer will come out dry by evening time but the top sometimes feel moist.

I would not mist a phal in this condition. Odds are it's not going to make it, but if you want to try to save it, I'd get it out of that moss. I grow in moss, but my climate is really dry and moss still takes a long time to dry out. Phal roots do not need to be constantly moist. They just need humidity around them. Where you live, they can get that from the air. These plants grow on trees in the wild in your country without human intervention at all! Try to keep that in mind when you water.
