I've started to move mine in based on low temps, leaving out my Cyms, Sarco and aussie Dens. Then the weather forecast is for rain for a good week and possible the a major storm next Sunday. So everything will be in by then. Then the cold lovers will probably go back out again.

My Cyms are still out as are my Nobiles. I didn't realize that Sarcos and Aussie Dens liked the cold. Mine are inside. I still am in a quandary as to what should be in the house ( stable 68) and what to leave on the porch
(70s days and 50 to 60 nights). The t-5s really warm it up in the daytime. I have mostly Catts, Dens, Phals, and Paphs. Any advice ?

When I get a new orchid, i "code" its tag with it's temp and light requirements' i.e. Cold to warm (C-W) and Bright light (B). That way i never have to guess!
In general, Phals want to be a bit warm. Catts can be cold or warm/hot depending, same for Dens. I'm not a Paph grower so I'm not sure.

Thanks Leafmite! I'm grateful at least to have mixed results. I have noted though that there's something in my little plastic greenhouse eating Phal buds, hmm...
Yes I can definitely see (feel) that it's long since been time to work on bringing plants in. I still have plants out though I have brought quite a few in because of night time temps. Within the next week though they should all be in, I'm working on a better indoor setup so we'll see.
Carrie that's a great idea. I'd really like to label my plants in such a way so I can make quick decisions throughout the year as to what to do with a plant when say it's going to be colder or rather hot.
Last year I soaked everybody in Physan before their final move inside. I'm thinking I should do the same though now I have more! So for now they desperately need food & water, this I will take care of and haul them in for couple nights and after a 'sorta' warm up take back out for the chemical bath. I think it would be wise of me to invest in time-release fertilizer.
Thanks for sharing everyone! Guess I need to move on over to the 'move em on it' thread.

Ohhh my gosh!!! My phal that I have had since June 2012 that I bought OUT of bloom has a spike!! I am beyond stoked and it goes to show that a wait over 3 years can be worth it. I had my plant outside all summer, it got late afternoon and evening sun. I then was mad at the placed it in my garage with no light/ water for over a week and was contemplating tossing it since it wasn't spiking still. I was picking it up as I threw away other plants and noticed the spike before I tossed it LOL! It was just starting and wasn't there before I placed in the garage. It is now back inside with my other phals and I will patiently await flowers!

My large Vandas, bulbophyllum and a few Cattleyas are still outside. They are either my larger plants or ones with bug issues that I don't want to move in so am waiting until I have to. My V. luzonica started 2 keikis this summer so I should have quite a show someday of flowers if it ever blooms.

Meh, I finally lost my nerve. The weather forecasts are for rain and storms (OK, the last time that happened a month ago, as the day drew nearer the forecast was downgraded until the day before when we were arned it would be 'cloudy'. The sun shone all day.)
The forecast is talking of night time temps dropping down to 15 C, but last night the temp outside went down to 13, so if it is going to drop much further, we are often a few degrees lower than they say.
In the end I organised a mass migration to the green house of all the outside orchids. That will probably initiate a heat wave..

LovePhals that's fantastic, I love surprises like that. Several of my Phals started spiking with the cooler temps as well. Please do share when it blooms!
Bil I have no doubt you're right. It drives me nuts when they say it's going to rain and they couldn't have been more wrong! Happens ALL the time... well at least they're safe now.

The temps were dipping below 14 the forecast said they would go down further, I rushed them all in, and sure enough last night the temps hit 20.
