My Jewel Box 'Dark Waters' has been outside since starting this thread (well in and out in the beginning) and it receives direct sun most of the day. We've also had A LOT of rain, especially this last week, so humidity has been on the high side. That said it seems to be doing well enough even as some of the pbulbs have some reddish-purple tint to them. This is my biggest Catt, all the others are minis plus a couple seedlings of compact to standard sized plants (can't remember how big they're supposed to get). These guys all seem to be doing well also with some tinting going on. I didn't have any blooms this spring though which makes me a little sad...maybe this fall... how are yours now?

Congrats on getting them out and the spike!

I have had a lot going on so haven't had as much time for my orchids as I normally do since my colection has grown. My favorite large phal has taken a major limpness it is very sad and a few of my othe indoor plants look neglected with the low light and no water for several weeks. I'm trying to help them recover.
my outdoor plants in our 95 degree days with very low humidity and no rain have done suprisingly well, although I did make myself water and fertilize them or they would not have made it. I have tons of new root and leaf growth and one of my phals is spiking.

My Milts and Cyms are out. My cats and Phals are in. Den nobile are out, Phal type are in. It's my first year putting things out, so I'm being cautious. My LC mini blue 'Hawaii' is hanging out in it's little pot of lava rock. Also a first for me, so I'll see how that goes. I will not put any Phals out for fear of crown rot, and I'm not sure about the Catts.
Thank you all for posting on this thread I am finding it very informative.

Had to take mine all back in. They have been out since about the middle of May, but in the last few days we had a heatwave of 102 deg. and practically no hum. Also the Grasshoppers are starting to munch on the flowers. Have been spraying and misting several times a day but the temps are just too harsh. I'll be putting the Dendrobiums back out in late fall so they get their chill.

Sorry to hear you had to haul them all back in Jungeoma, though they do look nice. Are those tags on them pictures of what the blooms look like? That's a nice idea.

Leafmite looks as if your plants are well and happy in their little community. I do enjoy seeing all my plants out together outdoors, it seems so much more natural though many of mine are just sort of sitting on the deck temporarily as summer starts and the sun changes some I have to adjust to the direct light. Already I've experienced some burns (oops, sorry guys).

I've been super spoiled with tons of rain which has meant no need to water for me, which is perfect this week too b/c then they got a good clean rinse. Next week I'll start back on the fert/KelpMax. I'm also curious to see what happens now that they have more of a chance to dry out instead of being constantly rained on.

Last year I did not put but two Phals out for fear of rot too. Well this year I broke that and have put all of them out at one point or another for days. I've only brought them in when they did get rained on and the night seemed it would be a bit cooler. Plus during a lot of the rain I put those folding outdoor chairs - the kind you take to sporting events - over my Phals so they wouldn't capture direct rain. So far my results are very positive. No crown rot and many of them are growing new leaves while others are growing new roots. Oh and when I did bring them inside I made a point to turn the small fan on that's about eight feet away, this helped the water on their leaves to dry faster.

All my plants, except phal and paph, are out. They consist of mostly vandaceous, cattleyas, one huge den. Nobile and one oncidium Rex heaven scent.

I am still struggling to get all my plants out. Due to back problems, being on my feet for any length of time is painful. I also have some large ferns that desperately need to come out. One plant that I am hesitating putting out is my Phal gigantea. It is a small plant but is putting out a new root and a new leaf, so, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Earlier, I was calculating now many months till I have to put them in again. Around October I'll have to start seems like. (I have more that 250 orchids + the rest of my tender plants)
I just hope we do not have a hurricane. That requires taking down all the vandas and putting them around the trunks of the trees and putting the rest under the plant table t h e n, putting everything back. I am seriously contemplating convincing DH to build me a new GH so I can leave everything inside year around.

I actually downsized my plant collection over the past three years. I took cuttings and root divisions and bought younger versions of the favorite plants and planted them into smaller pots ('bonsai) and got rid of the others. The citrus brought about a constant battle with scale so I tossed them. The only 'large' pots I have are the two fig trees but, in six years, they will go to live with my youngest when she graduates from college as they are hers.
As for the orchids, I have many small ones and many are mounted or in baskets so it is easy to toss them in a box and carry them inside. I gave away most of the large ones so it isn't nearly as terrible as it once was.

With that many plants, you do need a second greenhouse. It's a necessity
