To Deflask or Not to Deflask? Male
Default To Deflask or Not to Deflask?

I picked up some flask that someone had imported for me and I wanted to get some advice on whether or not they should be deflasked now.

2 Phals
1 Cycnoches
1 Cycnodes
1 Dockrillia cucumerina (Den. Cucumerinum)

They look ready to come out but my main issue is that it's mid-Autumn here in Sydney and we're starting to feel the days getting much cooler.

Should I let them out or hold off till Spring?

Usually flasks are sent ready for deflasking. You can hold off if you keep them under a flouro light for 1/2 the day. If you plan to keep them in the flask, then you will need to keep an eye on developing fungus/bacteria in the flask which can happen and wipe the flask contents out within days. You will see a change to the media surface or the plants will start to go brown/black.

Just curious, why are the cooler days a problem? I'm assuming that these will be inside, so it shouldn't be a concern for them. Those flasks look more than ready to be deflasked.

@ plucker Thanks for the tip.

You do have a point there about why the cooler weather would matter...

I think I'm just being a bit pedantic about whether or not they could handle the Winter. I would have just put them outside with my other collection just with a bit more care.

I'm just going to deflask
