This is an old spike and I've been waiting a while to see if it would do anything, and now it's doing stuff!

I had a big Phal that started growing a branch from its old spike, and then the whole thing just dropped dead. I hope this little one doesn't do the same thing.

Gotta love when they do that!

Over the winter I had a few of my phals a little too close to the patio door and the cold prodded them into growing even more branches off their old spikes. Sneaky buggers.

Ohhhh wonderful!!

I've got three Phals, well four actually, doing this right now. Two are potted keikis of the third, all three of whom have had their spikes since fall though the blooms died several months ago they stayed green. Now one keiki is on bud (just two like last time), another is still just in spike while the mother is just starting to grow from the tip like yours.

The fourth is an interesting case. Dehydrated Phal (chronic under-waterer here if you've not already heard ). Left the spike on since it stayed green (I know some say cut a spike on a struggling plant, but I don't always like to follow the rules ). After months and months the spike started a keiki near the end. Keiki put out three leaves (no roots, probably cuz the dehydration continues ). Now the keiki is growing a small spike AND the main spike is growing a new 'branch' halfway down. At first I thought it was a 'branch' but then I thought nah this is another keiki but now it looks like a keiki that the plant decided should actually be a spike!

Fun stuff!!!!! Good job.
