Hey everyone!

I repotted 5 plants tonight, including my dendrobium kingianum, nicknamed Jadzia Dax. It bloomed for all of February and some of March, and the blooms are gone and faded–*for two weeks now! I removed all of the old flower stems.

But now?? There is a new spike?? Why?? Is something wrong with my plant?
Or am I looking a gift horse in the mouth by questioning this?

The root system looked mostly fine when I was repotting.

Included is a picture of the spike... it's weirding me out!!

Orchids don't have calendars, they don't read the books about them, and they refuse to follow the rules...rebel plants that they are. LOL!

Sorry - couldn't resist. Just enjoy the extra blooms and don't worry about it.

Enjoy it, this guy is just a bit late to the party!
Now why on earth would you think there's something wrong with a plant that wants to bloom?

I don't know, I am just a worrier.
I think, "Oh no is this plant unhappy and dying, so with its last energy it is putting out a final spike before it dies!!"

...I'm silly like that.

And Astrid, they do *do* that, but I'm sure you can look at the health of the leaves and roots and figure out if that's happening for yourself.
I worry about my babies too...good thing mine will never want to drive a car or take drugs.

Haha!! True! I'll never have to pay their university fees, either!

The plant is totally healthy and has plenty of happy little roots in the pot, and I've repotted it snugly. The plant is in great shape!

But obviously even though it is in great shape it is also on the verge of death so I should unpot it and look at the roots twenty times just to be sure! Gotta love this plant to death!!!
(kidding, of course, but I'm sure you know that feeling!!)

Oh thank god for clear pots, so that I am not tempted to dig like a squirrel and see what is happening with the nuts in the pots.
