Please Help - Cymbidium - healthy?
Exclamation Please Help - Cymbidium - healthy?

I recently bought this cymbidium and need to know if it's healthy or if I should just return it. I've rarely had success playing orchid doctor and don't have the time to deal with it. After looking at it today, it looks really bad to me.

I have not kept cymbidium before but have a range of general knowledge on various species from both keeping and failing at keeping them (mostly failing or limited success, lol)

I'm new here

Thanks and please let me know.

I'm not sure if I am overlooking something - what looks bad to you?

the bulbs to me look they are dying and rotting, all the pics I could find show the bulbs green and healthy looking. I also watched videos of what healthy plants are to look like. I took pics from all sides. See how even the base of the leaves that wrap around at the bulb base are brown and sick looking?

I wonder if that red wrap around the pot is keeping too much moisture in.

very well could be but the potting medium seems quite dry to me and I'm sure it's not in the proper mix as well.

Hoping that someone with cymbidium experience can tell me if these bulbs look healthy or not.

I'm just trying to understand is the damage already done and is it worth messing with or if I'm just going to be dealing with a headache should just exchange it.

Reposting this here as I've yet to get a clear answer -

I recently bought this cymbidium (unknown variety) and need to know if it's healthy or if I should just return it. I've rarely had success playing orchid doctor and don't have the time to deal with it. After looking at it today, it looks really bad to me.

I have not kept cymbidium before but have a range of general knowledge on various species from both keeping and failing at keeping them (mostly failing or limited success, lol)

If the bulbs are soft then they are bad, if they are firm probably ok.

To me I see a healthy plant. But there is no picture of the leaves. Cymbidiums have that line across the base if that is what you are referring to.

Pic of the leaves and others of the base are at the full pics link in first post below the photo but here's a leaf image for you

So the bulb and leaf base are supposed to have that brown dead/rotting look? all the pics I could find of healthy plants were nice and medium/bright green and didn't look like that at all....so that's why I'm asking growers who have experience keeping these as I have none.

here's what I would expect, based on google image search, a healthy plant should look like at bulb base
