Help with Phal-Den.
Hello everyone, Today I need help rescuing a phal-den noid. One of my neighbor brought it today after having it for almost a year it started to die. First it lost all it leafs from the older canes, and it gave out a new cane but that one stop growing and then started to loose all its leafs. That is when she brought it to me.
What I got today was a very dehydrated plant (although the peat moss that it was planted was humid), so I took it out the pot and all the roots are gone, They are mush. There is no new roots, except for a very small and I mean very small new growth that was cover under the media (I was glad I did not snap it while cleaning the roots).
I have never rescue a phal den before and I only have one phal-den, the rest are all nobile dens or the type that I grow outside all year long. I will need some guidance to help this one survive.
What I done so far: was disinfected the plant and gave it some sea weed extract and rested it on top of some humid moss. I have not planted it yet. I don't know how to make sure the new cane survives, it is so small. So if any one has any suggestions, I will greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I only have two den-phals, but they seem to be resilient. I'd pot it in a small pot, using a stake or two to stabilize it.

I have been taking care of a den phal for awhile, they loose their leaves very easily but do bounce back.

I hope that it is able to bounce back, I will keep you posted. How is the one you are taking care of doing?

Still looks healthy even without roots. You will want to raise humidity for this one. Make sure the new growth potted above the media and maybe water it every 2-3 days. Before potting it up, you can soak the entire plant in kelp/seaweed solution to promote root growth. I've rescued one last year and its putting out a new growth.

It's doing ok so far, lost leaves on all the canes but 2 (almost over night). It looks like one is trying to form a bud. I have had this plant on and off, as I rescued and now I'm plant sitting.
The first time it lost leaves the media was wet and foul smelling. I repotted then it did well. This last leaf drop I believe was due to being watered then there was a big temp drop. The leaves yellowed then dropped off in about a week. The roots were fine this time. I did switch the pot to clay because I didn't like the plastic pot it was in and I think this will be better insulation from temp extremes. I was so shocked when it lost all those leaves, especially since it isn't my plant.
