As others have mentioned, it all depends upon your watering habits and conditions. I find many plants do very well for me in pure (loosely) packed sphag. However, folks from humid, wet areas like Florida, often find that sphag is a total disaster for them -- it doesn't dry out fast enough in their conditions.
