Default 3 months in! My complete collection — Brief Overview, and Thank You!

Hello folks! I just want to say thank you— some of you may have seen my introduction post, where I vowed as my New Years resolution to never kill an orchid again! Can be seen here:

http://www.orchidboard.com/community...ember-nyc.html

Well, since then, my collection has really grown—and is actually THRIVING!

So I wanted to share an update on what I've been growing! Here is a list/brief description of my full collection!

• Brassavola Nodosa
In spike with 4 buds and some incredible roots!

• 2 Maxillaria Tenufloria
1 actively growing new pseudobulbs, 1 just finished flowing and I had to repot and divide that one because I had discovered that it was shipped to me with a family of centipedes. So I wanted to remove as much sheath and hiding place as possible.

• Dendrobium Nobile Fancy Angel "lycee"
In flower, nearing the end dropping flowers rapidly and I am a little worried about this orchid, as it is also losing leaves. I don't think it's due to dormancy .... Maybe I'm wrong.

• Slc. Love Castile "Kurenai"
In flower with two large deep magenta blooms.

• Blc. Dan O'Nell "Jubilee"
Recently finished flowering (my profile picture is the flower). I decided to repot, and I am so glad I did. The media was badly in need of being changed and the roots were no where as healthy as the plant appeared! I really really love this plant.

• Zygopetalum "Big Red"
In spike with 6 massive buds!

• Monnierara Millenium Magic "Witchcraft"
Out of dormancy and has a new growth about 6 inches tall with 4 or 5 leaves.

• Onc. Twinkle "White Shower"
In flower on 2 spikes and 1 spike developing.

• Den. Delicatium or Kingiarium
It was labeled delicatium, but I don't think it is. At any rate, it just finished flowering. The most intense fragrance of any plant I've ever smelled!

• Den. Big Wave "Akebono"
This is a keiki I rescued from my local nursery. The roots were badly damaged and I am trying to stimulate it to grow.

• Tolumnia Angelheart x Spunky"HotSpots"
Just about finished flowering, and based on all the research I've done these love to be mounted vs. potted, so this morning I just mounted it on a piece of cork and moved it to the west window inside my shower where it should receive a great deal of humidity... We shall see!

• Vanda Mary x Thonglor
This is a better gro bag baby that I put into a 4" basket and also hung in my west facing shower window so it should get a great deal of humidity and bright light.

• Miltassia Golden Spider "Copius"
In flower and looking super healthy with lots of new growth. I really love these flowers.

• NoID Oncidium
Just out of flower, very cool yellow, white and maroon barred blooms. A very prolific bloomer.

• Phal "Sweet Maui Sunset"
Trader Joes purchase. 2 spikes one of which I cut back about a month ago is growing new buds, the other spike just lost its last flower, and two nodes lower has began to send out two bud branches. I also just noticed I have a third spike growing!

• 1 NoID Phal
1 is a rescue that I brought to spike. This one has very interesting deep maroon leaves that I've read usually produces a red or pink flower?

Haha yes that bug has bit me! I'll admit (or maybe blame it on), what really has enabled me is that the Philadelphia Flower Show had an incredible vendor (Waldor Orchids) which made it all too easy to add and add more... Haha.

Also, my local nursery which has their own yearly flower show, just so happened to be during this time. Usually they only stock Phals, but for some reason (coincidence) they decided to show lots of orchid varieties and they've been getting daily shipments of the coolest stuff!

Otherwise I'm sure it wouldn't have grown this much, this fast! Who am I kidding.... Hahaha

You have some very nice orchids!
It is very hard to resist buying new orchids. I have tried to stop getting new ones over the years but more just keep adding themselves to my collection... somehow.

Yes, too bad they don't land in the collections without the addition of monetary efforts.

You ain't kidding me!!

It sounds like you're doing an excellent job! Do you mind my asking in what general region are you located? Are you warm year round or more temperate like me here in the upper Midwest with low humidity in the winter. Whatever you're doing keep doing it, sounds like it's just right. Sorry I can't help you with the Dendrobium issue, I don't have any Dends in my collection.

I know all too well about exponential collection growth. I've reached a max unless I move to a bigger house or get a greenhouse. Beware...stay away from eBay unless you want your collection to bust at the seams...if that's the case then go to every Orchid show you can, browse ebay regularly searching general alliances like typing in miniatures or just Oncidiums. Or get hooked on a particular alliance and keep your eyes open every chance you get.

Otherwise... Good Luck!

I don't mind you asking at all!

I am in NYC. I am fortunate enough to have great window exposures south and west without much obstruction from other buildings.

Aside from orchids, I grow lots of other things and I have an extra bedroom where I have converted it into an "indoor greenhouse", with HPS lighting, humidity is my greatest challenge, mostly due to the heat and the evaporation it causes from the lighting. I am going to look into LED options soon and I look forward to the spring/summer for the increase in humidity. For now I just use airoswiss humidifiers.

Heres a photo of thumbnails from my "green room" without the orchids

I am trying to be very very specific with my next purchases. I have a wish list now LOL. only a couple of things on it maybe 4 or 5 for now! Haha. -imageuploadedbytapatalk1427157883-712591-jpg
