Actually, that is more common than you'd think. I've had this a couple times and once one of the plants died (not even a related species) and other is still hanging on. So don't feel like the Lone Ranger here. This is pretty common in the trade. Moreso with the big box stores.

Default novice question on same subject.

Hi this is my first post and I have the same problem in minature, so to speak. I ordered a baby orchid on ebay phal intermedia species. Because it was cheap and I had free shipping.

Anyways, The 2 1/2" pot has two plants in it and I was wondering if I should repot and seperate or cut the smallest one like they do with tomatoes. I hate the cut idea, but I don't want to stunt two plants just because I want two orchids.

Thanks, Melinda

Hi Melinda! Welcome to the Orchid Board!
You said your ebay purchase came with two plants? Are they attached? If so, this may be a "keiki" which is a baby plant. If they are attached, I would leave them be until the baby has roots that are a few inches (like maybe 4 or 5 inches) long. Then I would separate them with a sterilized cutting tool and treat the wound on the "momma" plant with some cinnamon.
Do you have a picture of your new ebay 'chid? Would love to see how it's looking! Good luck!

Here your go!

You can see from the size of my thumb that it is quite small, the plant not the thumb.

One of your plants looks like a Minho Princess of some kind! A nice one!

They look like two separate plants to me. It probably got missed when deflasking and planted. I'd take them both out and try to gently tease the root systems apart, then repot in separate pots. Let us know how it goes.
