OMG MY FIRST oncidium SPIKE!!!!

Ok well it is not my first spike I have been growing Phals very well and getting them to spike no problem. This is my first of my other orchids to spike.

I bought this BIG! Sherry baby oncidium in Oct. It just had one spike but 7 bulbs with new growth. 7 mature bulbs in a 4 inch pot. I repotted it into a 6 inch clay pot.

The 2 new growth I bought it with looks to have stopped growing. Now that it has adjusted to my home it sent out 3 or 4 new growths that are growing well. I was excited about that. But I was watering it today and saw a SPIKE!!!!! I am so happy. This is my first non Phal to spike for me.

I found my green Thumb. I never use to be able to keep other house plants alive let alone rebloom any.

Yes, and you have had it long enough to know this is YOUR spike.

You might wanna spring the spike out cause it is stuck. This is common in oncidiums. What i do is use a tooth pick and just nudge it free. Be very careful so you do not break the spike.

Thanks everyone. A little research goes a long way.

I popped the spike out of the leaf I think it would have made its way out. I pulled the leafs apart and popes it out.
