Default Glass pot

Making a start on my first glass pot for Orchids. I've put clay on the outside of a clay pot. This should help hold the glass before it's soldered. The mold shape is uneven for a reason, I want a free style design with different textures
and angles. I have perhaps a 100 plus sheets to glass here so glass texture and color are not a problem.
I'll make the base more or less clear so roots can be checked. Sides will be moss greens and natural colors. My intent is to enhance the plant with natural shades and patterns. I done want to make the pot too flashy as the Orchid is the most important part of a display.
Here are a few pics of glass. I will not use the red, it just shows the ripple glass well.
Thanks
Steve

I have a couple of those patterns/colors as well. Do you do stained glass work? After I started reading this, I thought about fusing it into a pot. Does that sound like a workable idea?

Default Fusing

Fusing is a good idea , yes I do Tiffany style and fusing.
I put a few pics in another thread . These are some of my designs for panels and such. I don't sell my stuff , i do give away the odd item. I'm going to use Tiffany style glass work on the pot . I have a ring saw so I can cut any shape and leave as many air slits/holes as seems sensible.
Also with the the copper foil designs I can use reinforcing steel flat wire and copper reinforcing flat wire. That gives me an option to create hanging pots. I have some very nice Bronze wire here to use as a hanger. I'm sure the glass pots will make it harder to repot and will be a little more fragile than clay. But I'll make a few and see how it goes. And ask you guys for reviews on style

Very nice. If you don't mind, I will take a couple of pics of my things and load on this thread so you can give me an opinion from a fellow glass artisan.

Default Love to

Love to see your work and get ideas . Molds for fusing would take a lot of time but once you have one then multiple copies are easier.

Your the Lady who lost her plants this Winter . If we move I should have a bunch of stuff I can send. I was sorry to read about your Greenhouse heat fail. I was going to wait and see if we moved and then send you a message.
Best Wishes

Check out the images I made of the flickr link below. First couple of pages are only ok , but if you keep going there are some weird and wonderful designs. All are photos of glass and copper of just glass. Lights, mirrors and kinds of stuff.I tried a couple of setups with orchids , but they were just bad or at least not good enough. I need to try again .
Don't really know why I make the images. I guess it's because I never know how they will turn out, kind of like flowers or children.
Like you I say at home with the kids and have a little more time now the youngest is coming up 10.

Default Progress

Here are a couple of pics of progress so far. I got a nice sheet of glass he other day with the base for pots in mind. It's kind of a leaf vein patten.
Bad drawing and a bit of cutting and foiling.
It's a start

I still haven't had the time to take a few pics of my work. Nice start on the pot.

I hope you find time soon.
I just did the first bit of solder work. Once I get the sides done I'll clean it all up and patina back to copper. It looks flat in the pic but it's dish shaped to help drain water. I included lots of holes for air. I've been meaning to do some 3D glass work for a long time. Please other members comments on the project if you think this idea for pots will work. Any down side ? I'm hoping they will give an advantage for showing . A silly amount of work will go into them , I hope they turn out well . As with most craft items they are only worth doing for yourself and friends.

Lovely work! Particularly enjoyed the hummingbird and wood duck. Rather than potting the orchid directly in the glass pot, I would suggest potting the orchid in a clear plastic pot and inserting that into the glass pot. Doing so would make future repotting easier and would help keep the inner side of the glass pots cleaner.

Thanks Paul.
No progress yesterday, kids and such.
Today I just cut and washed 27 bits for the pot rim.
I'll start to foil and solder and see how far I get. Next pot needs to be smaller as there will be 50 plus bits of glass in this one. I hope the effect is good enough to do justice to the work involved .
